11 things I have learned in liverpool
final talk with laurie peake and paul domela, liverpool-biennial, 2010 |
1. get in contact with local people (as soon as possible) and avoid directors, managers and other institutions…
2. reflect your working - write a diary. look for the balance beetween doing and reflecting about the doing (do less)
3. pay attention to the marginal. be open for the unexpected, for accidenties (go with the flow)
4. to understand the (social-cultural-historical) context of someone else takes a lot of time
5. avoid the dominant discurs. you get passiv/reacting
6. learn to wait: at some time you can connect and combine the different experiences/influences/encounters/accidents for the work
7. look for companeros and do something together (look for the existing)
8. do something not too perfect - wait - look what happens - continue. frowsy plans, loose ideas give space for others. dont think everything before
9. dig deep into the small things (on the ground), because just there you find life.
go to the details, certain spots, groups, peoples. connect the small things with the world
10. dont care about your discipline (art is not always the solution)
11. work is a waiting tool (bruce mau)
